Limone sul Garda is the northernmost village at the western shore of Lake Garda and belongs to the province of Brescia. The name of the derives from the Latin word “Limes” which means border.

The village has been completely isolated, only accessible by sea or a steep mountain path, until the construction of the western Gardesana street in the year 1932. Economy based mainly on the cultivation of lemons and olives and on fishing.

Today Limone is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Lake Garda in the province of Brescia. The small village which has been built around the picturesque harbour has maintained the typical atmosphere of a fishing village. The beautiful palaces and narrow streets of the historic village centre, which lies at the foot of the mountain “Dosso dei Roveri”, fascinated famous personalities such as Goethe, Lawrence and Ibsen. The church “San Rocco” (XVI century) which is situated above the village offers a magnificent view over Lake Garda. The vegetation is typical Mediterranean with oleanders, palms and olive trees.

The symbol of the village are the famous “Limonaie” (greenhouses for cultivation of lemons) which are located on terraces at the hillsides. Ruins of the first greenhouses, built in the 17th century can be visited north of Limone.
