This tradition has its roots in an event of the late 1600s. In that period, in fact,\u00a0St.Philip arrived in Torri del Benaco while a terrible raging plague and its presence was enough to make it cease, in addition to healing all the sick. When the time came to leave, the people opposed and tried to make it desist by burning the the boat that should have brought it to Bardolino.
