Saint Filippo’s day in Torri del Benaco

This event, in honor of the Patron Saint of Torri del Benaco, San Filippo, will fill the two days on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May.

With the presence of food stands, musical groups and exhibition of ancient jobs, this event is dedicated to all those who wish to spend a quiet day with family or friends.
The most awaited moment of this festival, however, is the traditional fire of the boat in the waters of the Lake. It is an event during which in honor of the saint burns a boat surrounded by Chinese lanterns that will illuminate the sky.

This tradition has its roots in an event of the late 1600s. In that period, in fact, St.Philip arrived in Torri del Benaco while a terrible raging plague and its presence was enough to make it cease, in addition to healing all the sick. When the time came to leave, the people opposed and tried to make it desist by burning the the boat that should have brought it to Bardolino.
This explains the traditional “boat fire”, which still illuminates the lake’s waters on the evening of May 26th “.
