Lazise is situated on the east lakeside of Lake Garda, south from Bardolino and north from Castelnuovo del Garda. The town with its 6.829 inhabitants is located 24 km west from Verona, at the foot of the moraine hills. The lake has its maximum width with 17 km in Lazise.
The town has very old origins. Remains of lake dwellings are dating back to a prehistoric origin of the settlement. The name Lazise comes from the Latin word „laceses“ and means village at the Lake. When looking at the six towers of the „Castello Scaligero“ and the city walls, the medieval origin of town is quite obvious. Lazise has a very beautiful old town with narrow streets and picturesque places, a harbour which is imbedded in the centre and the Veronese customs office dating back to the 14th century. There are several important villas in the town: villa „Pergolana“ (the best known), villa „Bernini“ situated at the lakeside surrounded by old walls, villa „Bottona“, built in medieval style, villa „Baratta“, with a beautiful park, villa “Bazzoli” and villa “dei Cedri” in Colà.
